DP World Proudly Supports United For Wildlife
DP World aims to promote greater awareness within our industry and to encourage greater cooperation between official bodies, organisations and the transport sector to combat this illegal trade.
United for Wildlife has created a ‘Transport Taskforce’ in which DP World joins a number of other businesses committed to ‘promote zero tolerance of transport of illegal wildlife parts across borders’, working together across the transport industry to help stamp out this illegal practice.
In October 2015, DP World hosted a meeting of the Taskforce and provided a tour of the company’s flagship Jebel Ali Port. The meeting follows continuous work by Dubai Customs, in collaboration with DP World, to tackle the trade in line with UAE legislation. Between 2012 and 2014, Dubai Customs seized, destroyed and repatriated over 775 pieces of ivory, worth over $10 million dollars.
In March 2016, DP World joined other members at Buckingham Palace for a landmark ceremony in which all members signed up to a series of 11 commitments which will shape future efforts to tackle the illegal wildlife trade. The commitments cover a range of initiatives including awareness, information sharing, detection and practical measures to stop the transportation of illegal wildlife products and promoting a common determination to tackle the illegal wildlife trade, wherever it may be.
